Message From Vice President of Percussion
Welcome to the PERCUSSION Page of SAPA! Here you will find helpful information regarding the marching percussion division of SAPA. Indoor percussion is a rapidly growing activity, and this division was created to support the growing number of scholastic and independent lines in the states of Georgia and Alabama. We are very excited about this new circuit, and if there is anything I can do to answer any of your questions, then please feel free to email me at eforst@sapaonline.net. I look forward to hearing from all of you soon!

Percussion Announcements
A helpful hint... - Thursday, January 25, 2007
Here's a hint about getting on the floor that I had to learn the hard way...As soon as the group ahead of you finishes their show and crosses the timeline, take your group out up to the timeline. As soon as the Timing and Penalty judge says go, you may cross the line and finish setting up. Your time starts as soon as you cross the line. Keep in mind, the T&P judge will NOT tell you to go to the line, he will only tell you when to cross it. I lost many a point last year because I was confused about that, so hopefully some of you new guys will benefit from my mistakes! Please contact me if you need any other information...see you Saturday at Chapel Hill!---Erik
Chapel Hill Critique - Wednesday, January 24, 2007
Apparently there is some confusion regarding percussion critique. Percussion Critique is NOT after Phantom Regiment performs on Saturday. It will take place during percussion retreat at 5:40pm. I apologize for any confusion, please let me know if you have any other issues that need addressed before Saturday. Thanks, and good luck to everyone at Chapel Hill!
Chapel Hill timeline, et al. - Monday, January 22, 2007
The timeline for this Saturday's Field Day show at Chapel Hill H.S. will be horizontal, entering from the front and exiting to the rear. Please review your contest packet for a detailed diagram of the contest flow. Also, please be reminded that we will NOT be enforcing any under-time penalties; however, over-time penalties will be enforced. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at eforst@sapaonline.net.
Reminder - Thursday, January 11, 2007
As we approach our first show, please make sure to review the current rules for performance set forth by WGI. They can be found on the resources page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at eforst@sapaonline.net. Thanks!
Percussion Judges/Instructor clinic - Tuesday, December 05, 2006
We are pleased to announce that, in a joint effort with SCGC, SAPA will be conducting our first ever Percussion judges/instructor clinic on Saturday, January 6th at Pickens High School. Andy Sanders, WGI Percussion Judging Coordinator, will be on hand to run the clinic, and the PIO unit Pariah will serve as our clinic group for the day. The schedule will be available to all of you as soon as possible. Email me at eforst@sapaonline.net if you have any questions. Hope to see all of you there!
Percussion Forum - Sunday, December 03, 2006
We have removed the safeties governing the use of the SAPA percussion forum. This will allow our website members to have their threads posted immediately, rather than having to wait for a few days. The forum exists so that instructors can ask questions and get information regarding SAPA. Please use good judgement when posting to the forum. The SAPA eboard reserves the right to remove any thread we feel is detrimental to our member units, judges or show hosts.
Policy Manual Correction - Sunday, December 03, 2006
Due to an oversight on my part, the age restrictions for ALL percussion scholastic classes was incorrectly stated. Percussion scholastic units are NOT restricted to only using students from 9th-12th grade. They may also include 6th-8th grade students from that high school's feeder program. Contact the Vice President at eforst@sapaonline.net if you have any more questions about this correction.

SAPA would like to announce the appointment of Steve Calhoun to the position of Percussion Judging Administrator. Steve's experience as a judge in both WGI and SCGC make him a valuable addition to the SAPA Percussion Division. If you have and questions or concerns about judging, or if you are interested in judging yourself, please feel free to contact Steve at calhoun@ellijay.com

Class descriptions, including a detailed write-up on the new novice class, are now available on the resources page of sapaonline.net. 10/19/2006 - Thursday, October 19, 2006
The percussion division would like to announce the appointment of Calvin Kelley, percussion director for Northgate High School, as the new Percussion Member-at-Large. Calvin's experience as an instructor and a percussionist makes him a great addition to the executive board and a great resource for the members of our circuit. Calvin can be reached at ckelley@sapaonline.net.
New Novice Class - Wednesday, July 12, 2006
We are in the process of formulating a new novice division for scholastic marching percussion. The purpose of this class would be to get newly formed lines ready for the next level of performance in a non-competitive setting. We are excited about this class as it offers a great educational experience for both students and instructors who may be new to the activity. More information to come shortly! |
